Flickerfest 8 - 17 January 2010

Flickerfest Fever starts this Friday!

Winged shirt-collars starched, bell bottoms pressed, film spools lovingly loaded, matinee idol hair slicked back into Tony Romero fan–do’s: the fever is building for the hottest disco in town this Friday – Flickerfest Opening Night!

After a record year of more than 1600 film entries from all over the world, we are ready to smack down the vinyl and get this party started!

Some highlights from Opening night include the world premiere of stunning Australian film The Clearing – starring Damien Walshe Howling, as well as highlights from Cannes - Runaway (Canada) and winner of the Cannes Short Film Special Distinction - The Six Dollar Fifty Man (NZ).

Afterwards, film and disco glitterati will boogie the night away at our Saturday-night-fever-themed disco bash, featuring cool Jameson cocktails, Rosnay Organic wines and Coopers beer, along with refreshing Phoenix Organic Juices and Charlie’s Honest Water, under the Bondi-blue moon to the soulful tunes of DJ Stephen Ferris.

The festival runs from the 8th – 17th of January at the Bondi Pavilion on Bondi Beach.

Highlights of the 10 day festival includes the amazing Academy® accredited International Competition, bringing the most accomplished award winning films and undiscovered global gems from across the world to our beach-side outdoor ampitheatre.

Homegrown films of the highest calibre compete in our prestigious Australian Competition, including several world and Australian premieres.

This year, we have curated four special showcase programmes: Stories on Human Rights – a moving and thought-provoking series of 22 short films commemorating the 60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by Award- winning filmmakers from across the world; Oscar Shorts – a celebration of some of the best Oscar-winning and nominated short films from around the world, in recognition of Flickerfest’s Academy® accredited status; Short Beats – Phat, funky and fired up – short films with a musical beat. Get up and dance! Also; Flickerkids! Tons of fun on the silver-screen for kids of all ages.

For the more technically-minded –  EDITING: THE CRAFT

Cutting-edge technology in post production: technical and creative solutions for working with Red and Avid as a professional filmmaking and music clip tool.  This workshop will focus on the pathway from shoot to delivery, using the RED ONE Camera, Avid Media Composer and Chaotic Post's unique digital workflow, to create your filmic masterpieces.

Presented by Avid and Chaotic Pictures, the workshop will be lead by Seth Larney and Lisa Shaunessy, directors of Chaotic Rentals and Chaotic Post, whose work includes production of short films The Clearing, Boundless and post-production on music clips for some of Australia’s most talented bands and musicians, including Kate Miller-Heidke, John Butler Trio and Jessica Mauboy.
